When it comes to routine services and repairs you need done to your vehicle, our certified technicians here at Audi North Miami can perform any task you need. If you're looking to get some experience performing service on your own, we're here to help!
One of these routine services is a rotor change. Your brake pads and rotors eventually become worn down and need to be replaced. So, this step-by-step process of changing rotors will help our drivers in Miami, Miami Beach, and Hollywood keep their vehicles safe and running smooth. Don't hesitate to contact us if any questions pop up.
- Setup

You want to make sure you have all the appropriate tools needed laid out before you start. Once you do that, you can go ahead and lift your car up with a jack.
- Remove the Wheel
You can loosen the lug nuts with a wrench and then remove them with your fingers. Once all the lugs are removed, the wheel should pull off easily. Since the brake pads and rotors are both equally important to your braking system, you can inspect the condition of the pad when the wheel is off.
- Remove the Brake Caliper
Held on by some bolts or spring clips, the caliper can slide away from the rotor once you use your wrench to remove those bolts.
- Remove the Brake Rotor

There may be more bolts attaching the rotor to the wheel studs that will need to also be taken off. Once that is done or if there aren't any other bolts, simply slide off the rotor from the wheel studs.
If you do have trouble getting the rotor to come off, it could be because of rust. You can use a hammer to help loosen and guide it off the wheel studs.
- Install the New Rotor
Take your new rotor and carefully line it up and slide it onto the wheel hubs. Once it is on, you can spray brake cleaner on it to make sure it is clean.
- Reassemble
Simply put everything back on in the reverse order that you took it off. Make sure everything is tightened, cleaned, and assembled properly. You can then repeat this process for the three other rotors as well.
- Bleed the Braking System
Before putting your wheels back on and lowering your car back to the ground, you'll want to bleed the braking system. Bleeding the system will get any residual air out and make sure that your braking system is working the way it is supposed to.
Also, check your brake fluid level and see if it needs a refill. After all of that, you have successfully done a rotor change.
